ACADEMICS

The academic portion of your university career is one significant determinant in your future success. The primary purpose of the fraternity system is to encourage and develop high scholastic achievement among its members. Just over 50% of students in university end up graduating. Fraternity membership alone sends it over 70%! From scholarship programs to behind-the-scenes takes on professors and courses, we have the edge and resources you need to succeed in your undergraduate career.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

On your resume, you need volunteer experience.  This is a proven fact.  Employers and corporations are looking for well-rounded individuals, and nothing looks better on your application than listing all the service projects you participated in -- and organized.  Usually, the only way a person gets involved in a philanthropic event, is to do it with a group of people. Our Fraternity is an excellent way for you to donate your time for a good cause.  This year we hosted These Hands Don't Hurt, raising awareness and funds for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.  It was a complete success, and we were featured on Channel 6 news, and the front page of the Arbiter!

ATHLETICS

Each fraternity participates in the numerous competitive sports in the Campus Recreation Intramural Leagues and in inter-fraternal sports like:  Flag Football, Whiffleball, Basketball, Golf, etc... It's difficult to get a group of people on your own to play team intramural sports, or outdoor paintball, or to get a football game together on a Sunday afternoon. Fraternities offer all of this along with the pride of sportsmanship, team spirit, and competition!  Not to brag, but you're looking at the 2004 Intramural Flag Football Champions.  Can you say "teamwork"?

LEADERSHIP

Direction. Intelligence. Courageousness. Strength. These are some of the words used to describe every great leader.  And they're the virtues we're continually striving to achieve in each of our members.  Everyone starts small, but gets to start somewhere. Whether you're an officer, an executive, on a committee, or just a participant, you will continually learn, and learn by doing. You'll learn how to manage a big budget, run effective meetings, speak in public, motivate others, succeed in job interviews...skills that will help you in college and beyond. These days it takes more than just a degree to get a good job - it takes leadership experience. 85% of the Fortune 500 Executives, 80% of US Presidents since 1900, and 100% of Apollo 11 Astronauts...all joined a fraternity!

BROTHERHOOD

Brotherhood is the foundation of the fraternity experience. Every man contributes to this aspect. Brotherhood combines the concept of individualism within the framework of mutual cooperation. As a fraternity brother you will form friendships unlike any found in other organizations. Brotherhood is not conformity. No fraternity is made up of mimic members who are exactly alike. By choosing to become a member of a fraternity, you will meet brothers who grow to become your closest friends, those who will cheer you on when you're successful and who will support you when the going gets tough.

NETWORKING

So, let's say you've graduated or are just looking for a summer job. Now what? In today's economy and job market, it's going to take more than looking at want-ads and job postings. You need to network with people. The fraternity is one of the best ways to do just that. Using the resources of fraternity members like alumni and our National Fraternity Alumni Directory, you may find that job you're looking for - that head start in life, all because you were actively involved a fraternity. What an investment!

* Our national office keeps current records of every member, and provides a private member side for every initiated member that allows for networking with other AKL Alumni.

TRAVELING

Now, let's assume you're planning a trip to another city in North America. You need a place to stay, but you don't want to spend too much legal tender, capiche?. Fraternity membership allows you to travel to other fellow chapter houses to meet brothers and have a place to stay for free! Sometimes, one chapter will get a bunch of guys together and plan a road trip and stay at several chapters along the way. And when you arrive, although you may have never met these brothers before, you have that indescribable fraternal bond, and you're more than just a guest in their home, you're instant friends. All this mushy brotherhood stuff may be hard to believe at first, but it's genuine.

* Our common bond between brothers is initiation, and every AKL has a common bond.

Recruitment is a year round process in which the Gamma Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Lambda strives to  seek individuals sharing our same ideals and goals in life. Fall 2006 is no different, and you'll be able to contact any of the AKΛs on campus to find out more about what a great thing we have going.  Informal Recruitment usually involves a bunch of Alpha Kappa Lambdas hanging out playing basketball, barbequing, and having fun. We are located at the first floor suite of the brand new Taylor Halls.  It's your chance to stop by and meet us in our campus life, and learn who we are and more of what we're about. We look forward to hearing from you, and hope to see you this Spring!

A list of rush activities can be obtained from our Rush Chair Cameron Weimerslage or by visiting our online calendar of events. Our rush is somewhat informal, meaning that we understand most Boise State students have jobs and a full-time class schedule and are very busy.  We ourselves are in the same boat, so we try to work around everybody's schedules as much as possible.  To hang out with the guys during the rush period, get a hold of Otter and he'll let you know what's going on that week.

Rush activities are all safe, dry, and fun.  We have things planned like volleyball, barbeques, sorority mixers, videogame wars, and plenty more.  These activities promote social interaction, and it'll give you plenty of time to find out if the fraternity life is something that fits the picture of the man you want to become, both  when you graduate, as well as for the rest of your life.

Our President, Brody Aston, is probably your best bet to find out what a fraternity is all about.  Brody has been an active member for years, and has never let anyone down with any of his responsibilities.  If even humanly possible, Brody is more excited about Alpha Kappa Lambda than anybody else, and he truly understands what being a Man of Character really means; he lives the life.

Call Brody Aston:  724-5273  or email him!

Cameron Weimerslage has recently been elected as recruitment chair this year, and he's your one-stop shop for any and all questions you have right now. He'll give you the lowdown on what it's like going into a fraternity, and will give you advice on everything you need to know; from our recruitment process down to scheduled events.

Call our Recruitment Chair, Cameron Weimerslage: 360-333-2242.
